Online Strategic Opinion Writing Competition
The Issues
Focus: Protecting Children from Various Forms of Violence
- Child protection policy making: Encouraging strong regulations in schools to break the chain of
bullying, sexual violence, and physical and psychological violence. - Developing the quality of educators: Teachers play an important role in building an inclusive
school atmosphere that is sensitive to the safety and psychological comfort of all students. - Strengthening reporting and response systems: Encouraging the effective implementation of safe
complaint channels that are biased towards victims in educational units. - Improving safe school facilities: Providing infrastructure that supports the supervision and
protection of vulnerable and disabled children from acts of intimidation.
Focus: Sustainable Waste Management
- Creative Economic Development in Schools and Communities: Formulating a waste management system that focuses on sorting and processing waste into new products that have economic value or marketability.
- Education on Sustainable Waste Management: Promoting awareness among the community and students to adopt a low-waste lifestyle through training in environmentally friendly waste processing techniques, so that waste can be managed independently and sustainably.
- Optimizing Value-Added Government Programs: Strengthening the implementation of Waste Banks by integrating community innovations that can create a sustainable ecosystem for buying and selling waste or recycled products.
- Innovative Campaigns and Creative Competitions: Organizing activities such as waste processing festivals or waste ambassador selections that focus on demonstrating practical waste management solutions that bring economic benefits to schools and the community.
Focus: Accessible Digital-based Public Services
- Creative Action to Strengthen Digital Services: Formulating creative movements or ideas that can transform public services to be more capable, productive, and critical in utilizing technology. This point focuses on how technology is used, but also on how technology can be utilized intelligently to ensure that government services are targeted and effective.
- Community Transformation and Critical Education: Encouraging new initiatives for communities to adapt to using technology-based public services to ensure that basic community needs are met and practical.
- Creation of a Safe and Inclusive Digital Space: Develop practical solutions to strengthen digital media ethics and education on digital security.
- Digital Innovation in Public Services: Encourage the shift from conventional bureaucracy to a responsive digital model, while the community learns digital ethics and security for data security and responsible interaction.
Goals and Outcomes
- Voicing Innovative and Implementable Ideas and Solutions: Providing a platform for young people to express creative, innovative, and solution-oriented ideas through short opinions that can later be implemented by young people, communities, organizations, and the government to jointly strive for the prevention of violence in educational environments, sustainable waste management, and the digital transformation of public services.
- Producing Policy Briefs: Compiling public policy documents based on selected works from Wikithon participants as practical policy instruments to be implemented collaboratively.
- Agreeing on Practical Policy Recommendations: Producing applicable and needs-based policy recommendations contributed from the ideas/concepts of young people through Wikithon, and reinforced by multiple parties through policy dialogues.
- Collaboratively Implementing Actions: Encouraging the creation of a joint movement capable of building a culture of care, a supportive environment, and social responsibility in responding to social issues that are also strategic issues for local governments.
- Agreeing on Communication and Coordination Channels between youth and government to ensure continued collaboration after the implementation of actions.
Through this competition, we hope to achieve a real impact and results from youth leadership to drive real change as follows:
- The collection of strategic opinions from young people offering practical solutions to prevent violence in educational environments, manage sustainable waste, and improve the quality of digital-based public services.
- The compilation of public policy documents synthesized from the works of Wikithon winners as practical policy instruments to be implemented collaboratively.
- The agreement on practical policy recommendations that can be directly implemented by youth, government, and multiple parties as a tangible manifestation of meaningful youth engagement transformation.
- The implementation of joint action agreements contained in the Policy Brief recommendations, which contribute to building a safe educational environment, environmental awareness, and creative and impactful digital literacy.
- The agreement on communication and coordination channels between youth and government to ensure continued collaboration after the implementation of the actions.
General Terms and Conditions
- Participants must be between 16 and 30 years old.
- Participants must be individuals (not in groups).
- Participants must be students, university students, or members of the general public.
- Residents of Makassar City and Gowa Regency.
- Participants are required to follow the Instagram account @basasulsel to get the latest information about the competition.
- Participants must have a BASAsulsel account to participate in this competition.
- Registration and submission of works can only be done through an account registered via basasulselwiki.org.
- This competition is free of charge (completely free).
- Participants may submit more than one entry on the same issue or on different issues (Example: Participants can submit two entries on the issue of the environment and one entry on the issue of education, or more).
- Participants may participate in a minimum of one issue and a maximum of three issues.
- Entries should be in the form of opinions with topics answering questions based on each issue as follows:
• Environmental Issue: “What is your idea for processing waste that has commercial value and can be applied in the school environment?”
• Education Issue: “Violence in all forms still often occurs in schools despite written regulations. What are your ideas to ensure that no child in school experiences violence?”
• Digital Literacy Issue: “As young people who are accustomed to using digital technology, what creative solutions can you offer the government so that digital platforms can be used for easily accessible public services?” - Participants may choose to answer at least one question and are allowed to answer all questions.
- Entries must be original, represent the participant’s own creative ideas, and not infringe on copyright. The use of AI is permitted (provided that AI is used to support the creative process, not as a complete substitute. Key decisions and innovations must still come from the participant.
- Entries must not have been and are not currently being submitted to other competitions.
- Entries must not contain elements of SARA, pornography, or content that violates social norms.
- The winners will be the participants with the highest cumulative scores from all assessments.
- Participants are responsible for the content of their entries.
- The jury’s decision is final and cannot be contested.
- The committee reserves the right to disqualify participants before, during, or after judging if they are found to have committed fraud.
- Participants agree to grant the committee the authority to use their work in non-commercial media and events without infringing on the participants’ copyright (while still crediting the participants as the owners of the work).
Special Terms and Conditions for Submission
- The submission must be written in Makassar or Bugis or Bugis Makassar dialect and translated into Indonesian and English.
- The submission must be presented clearly, concisely, and in a structured manner.
- The submission must be at least 500 words and no more than 1000 words in length.
- The title of the submission must be relevant to the competition topic.
- The submission will be assessed based on:
• Originality: Fresh and authentic ideas that originate purely from the author’s thoughts.
• Creativity: A unique, interesting style of presentation that engages readers.
• Power of the Message: The deep meaning or value that the opinion piece seeks to convey.
• Relevance: The suitability of the opinion piece’s content to the three main issues that have been determined.
• Quality: The use of accurate, valid, and accountable data and information sources.
• Applicable and Concrete: Recommendations or actions that are practical, clear, and can be implemented collaboratively in the field.

Read the Instructions
Before filling in the form, make sure you have read the entire 2026 Public Participation Wikithon Terms of Reference by clicking on the “How to Respond” button. After that, select at least one prompt question to answer and use it as your entry topic.

After reading the 2026 Public Participation Wikithon Terms of Reference and selecting a question to answer, go back to basasulselwiki.org homepage, where you can see the Wikithon headline at the top of the page. To answer the questions, click the “respond” button below it. You will be directed to the submission page.

Fill in the Form
After entering the Wikithon work upload page, participants will be directed to complete the available fields, such as:
Participants are asked to create a unique and creative title for their work in four languages (Makassar, Bugis, Indonesian, and English), and include a selected issue code to facilitate curation, namely: #Environment for environmental issues, #Education for educational issues, and #Digital for issues related to digital literacy transformation.
• After writing the title, you'll be asked to submit your work in the column provided and ensure that all sections are filled in. If you are not fluent in the Makassarese or Bugineese , you are allowed to use dialects as an alternative.
• Upload an image as the cover of your submission. Include the photo source in the description (e.g., personal/special photo if sourced from outside).
• Select the category under which you want to participate.
• Select the issue you wish to follow under the “Wikithon Issue” column. -
